Register for Cloud Foundry EU Summit (Sept 11-12 in the Hague) here.

The Cloud Foundry Foundation and its members work diligently each spring and fall to bring their community the best event possible in North America and Europe. Last month, the Cloud Foundry Summit took place in Philadelphia, attracting more than a thousand end users, open source contributors, software engineers, operators, CIOs and others to the Pennsylvania Convention Center. Attendee feedback dubbed it the best Summit to date, and new events like the Contributors Summit and Community Awards fostered an even stronger sense of community across a tight-knit group.

Summit Activities

Executive Director Abby Kearns and CTO Chip Childers took turns hosting speakers on the keynote stage over the course of the Summit’s three days. Keynotes ran the gamut from live demos that had the audience on the edge of their seats to fireside chats on user experience and open source ethics. Watch keynotes here.

After each day’s keynotes, attendees made their way to a variety of breakout sessions on topics including Cloud Foundry 101, Cloud Foundry for Developers, Cloud Foundry for Operators, Cloud Foundry for Business and others. The Foundry — an ample exhibition hall — was the meeting place for attendees looking to make connections at a wide variety of companies, as well as a place to participate in hands-on labs and technical trainings. Community Focus

In addition to the Contributors Summit and User Day, which were focused on specific groups, the Foundation hosted its well-known Diversity Luncheon. The line-up featured talks on digital accessibility, mentorship, gender equity and “returnship” — or the notion of returning to the workplace after a hiatus, possibly due to raising a family. Watch the Diversity talks.

The inclusive Cloud Foundry community also recognized many of its own on stage with its Community Awards, which were celebrated by Kearns and Childers as they handed out trophies to a half dozen individuals and two companies — Comcast and Dick’s Sporting Goods — for their dedication to and involvement with the Cloud Foundry community. Foundation News

The Foundation also made several announcements on stage at the Cloud Foundry Summit. Excitingly, Eirini is now passing the core functional tests that validate Cloud Foundry Application Runtime releases, with future work focused on production readiness and testing against hosted managed Kubernetes environments from various public cloud providers. Eirini was officially announced at the EU Summit in Basel this past October, and it has matured extremely rapidly. The software is now mature enough that early adopters have begun to deploy it into production environments.

In addition, the Foundation announced the publication of its most recent research report, Adaptation, Not Adoption, is the Key to Digital Transformation: Why IT Strategy Requires a Perpetual State of Change. With more than half of companies surveyed putting mission-critical apps in the cloud, it’s clear that digital transformation is the new reality, and that companies must adapt to constant change to keep up. As more companies embrace the reality of digital transformation, they are adapting to the iterative journey that unfolds.

And in an additional demonstration of many companies’ commitment to Cloud Foundry,  Accenture and HCL were announced as the Foundation’s first two Certified Systems Integrators, following on the program’s launch in October at the European Summit.
