Tomer Shiran, Co-founder and Chief Product Officer at Dremio shares his predictions for 2021. According to Shiran:
- In these last five years, with the rise of the cloud data warehouses, companies like Snowflake and technologies like Redshift, we have the ability to separate compute and storage that allows us to scale those two things independently of each other. The separation of compute and data will become the default choice.
- The shine of the cloud data warehouse will wear off in 2021 as companies realize their limitations and inflexibility. As data is tied to one single-engine restricting users from leveraging different analytical technologies without moving data in and out of the data warehouse.
- The cloud data lake will be able to do what the data warehouse can do, and actually, a lot more than that, providing a git type of experience where you can version control the data, and create branches and experiment with data without impacting kind of production queries.
