Amazon invests in self-driving startup Aurora

Amazon is not stopping at drones and Blue Origin rockets to deliver your boxes and payloads. They also want to drive you around. Amazon is investing in the high-profile autonomous vehicle startup Aurora.

Amazon participated in an investment round worth $530 million for Aurora Innovation. Aurora announced Thursday that the funding was led by venture firm Sequoia. In addition, Amazon and funds and accounts advised by T. Rowe Price Associates, Inc. are making significant investments in Aurora, the company added.

While Amazon is yet to make clear how it intends to benefit from the investment, Aurora expects the funding and partnership “to accelerate our mission of delivering the benefits of self-driving technology safely, quickly, and broadly.”

Aurora also hopes to leverage on Amazon’s expertise, capabilities and perspectives to drive towards its mission, the official statement added.
