As the infectious COVID-19 disease continues to spread, Microsoft has cancelled its annual Most Valuable Professional (MVP) Summit. Scheduled to take place from March 16th to 20th in the Seattle area, the Microsoft MVP Global Summit 2020 will now be run as a virtual event.

The MVP Global Summit is an exclusive multi-day MVP event that is hosted in Bellevue and at Microsoft headquarters in Redmond, Washington. The Summit features technical discussions and feedback sessions combined with networking opportunities.

An official post read: “Our entire team is working hard to plan and prepare an alternate experience that still provides the exclusive in-depth technical sessions in an online-only format and be inclusive to our globally distributed community.”

As of Tuesday, more than 90,000 confirmed cases of the COVID-19 disease and over 3,100 deaths have been reported. These include 172 outside of mainland China and 6 in Washington state. As the COVID-19 outbreak spreads in more than 73 countries, major companies are forced to cancel or postpone their tech conferences.
