Linux Foundation Training & Certification has joined hands with RISC-V International to offer a new training course, Building Applications with RISC-V and FreeRTOS (LFD112x). This course is aimed at anyone interested in RISC-V and RTOS, providing an introduction to embedded systems, RISC-V and the FreeRTOS real-time operating system.

The course also teaches the skills needed to integrate RISC-V processors with FreeRTOS for real-time applications, and trains students on how to use open source processors, based on the open source RISC-V ISA, and RTOS systems for various embedded applications. Upon completion, participants will have the skills to enhance their careers in building embedded systems with RTOS capabilities and processor implementations based on the RISC-V ISA.

The course was developed by Nambi JU, who has 25+ years of experience with chip design and verification, EDA tool development, EDA tool flows, building embedded systems with various processors and micro controllers, product design and development.

Embedded devices are everywhere today, and will only continue to grow, with the market for embedded systems projected to grow from USD 88.35 billion in 2020 to USD 138.45 billion by 2028. That means more embedded systems with real-time operating system (RTOS) capabilities will need to be built for real-time applications.

RISC-V International plans to develop additional courses focused on other RTOS’ going forward.
