Google has teamed up with Facebook, Stanford and other outfits to create an external advisory council.

The new Advanced Technology External Advisory Council is aimed at shaping the “responsible development and use” of AI in its products. It comprises 8 members to look into a range of disciplines and experiences.

This group will consider some of “Google’s most complex challenges that arise under our AI Principles, like facial recognition and fairness in machine learning, providing diverse perspectives to inform our work,” said Kent Walker SVP of global affairs at Google in a blog post.

Council will hold four meetings starting in April.

The current council members include academics focused both on AI’s technical aspects as well as experts in ethics, privacy, and political policy.
