Google has been designing chips, for computer server of its data centers and also image processing for its Pixel phones, for almost five years now. The search giant has recently hired around 16 microchip engineers and four talent recruiters for its “gChips” team, according to a Reuters report.

These recruits are from companies like Intel, Qualcomm Inc, Broadcom Inc and Nvidia Corp, according to LinkedIn profiles.

The company is mulling over adding more engineering veterans as it expands its program to design key components of its devices internally, the report further added.

Google, however, refrained from making any comment on the new chip-related recruits.

With an aim to reduce costs as well as dependence on vendors, Amazon, Microsoft, Apple Inc and Facebook Inc each run similar chip design program.
