Microsoft Launches Linux-based Surface Duo

Yeah! Microsoft is back in the smartphone game and this time with a dual-screen Android ‘device’ called Surface Duo. The software company revealed the device with twin screens at an event in New York on Wednesday.

Though Surface Duo does make phone calls, features a camera and also fits into your pants pocket, Microsoft doesn’t want you to call it a phone. Chief Executive Satya Nadella said Microsoft is not entering an existing device category; instead, it’s trying to create a new one, as reported by Wired.

Equipped with two 5.6-inch screens that open like books, the device is powered by a Snapdragon 855 processor. When unfolded, Surface Duo turns into a miniature 8.3-inch tablet.

The design of the device resembles that of Surface Neo laptop, recently introduced by Microsoft as well, though on a smaller scale.

Microsoft has plans to make available the device late next year. However, the company wants developers to start building apps for the new hardware.
