Nextcloud, the open source, self-hosted content collaboration platform provider, announced that it more than doubled its customer base in 2018.

The company gained major customers like the German Federal Government, cities like Bern and Geneva and dozens of manufacturing, finance, health, education and research organizations across the world looking for secure collaboration solutions.

The Nextcloud ecosystem has grown to be the largest in the self-hosted productivity market with well over 200 apps built by over 150 different private developers and businesses, the company claimed.

Nextcloud also announced the upcoming virtual drive technology in the Nextcloud Desktop Client. It replaces the traditional files in a locally synchronized folder with a virtual view on all files the user has, available on demand and with a smart caching strategy.

The company has also created a customer advisory board to help align development with the needs of its customers. The board will be officially launched at the Enterprise Day, scheduled in Stuttgart later in March.
