Red Hat has extended its collaboration with Intel to bring Industry 4.0 transformation to smart manufacturing and energy use cases by coupling Intel Edge Controls for Industrial (Intel ECI) and Intel Edge Insights for Industrial (Intel EII) with Red Hat open hybrid cloud technologies.

“By coupling Intel Edge Controls for Industrial (Intel ECI) and Intel Edge Insights for Industrial (Intel EII) with Red Hat open hybrid cloud technologies, ICS vendors, hardware providers, software developers and solution providers can deliver a holistic solution that spans from real-time shop floor control and artificial intelligence/machine learning (AI/ML) to full IT manageability,” Red Hat said in a blog post.

Combined efforts include:

  • Developing a reference architecture with Intel ECI that creates an open, scalable platform that combines virtualized and containerized control with artificial intelligence/machine learning (AI/ML) models with associated hardware acceleration.
  • Helping to build the foundation of the modern factory edge by transitioning the industry to a software-defined solution for controls, thus providing better flexibility, higher levels of availability and reduced costs.
  • Driving innovation in other Industry 4.0 areas, such as private wireless networks, open manufacturing platforms, energy data platforms, power sector digitalization and autonomous mobile robotics.
