Since the launch of CarPlay in 2014, Apple iOS users have been using Apple Maps for navigation in the absence of third-party apps. Change happens all the time and sometimes it’s good. The latest version of iOS 12 promises to bring that change.

iPhone users are now free to choose whatever third-party mapping apps they wish to use to get to their destination, besides Apple’s maps platform.

Apple released the new version on Monday, and after Google updated its Maps app for iOS to version 5.0 to support CarPlay, you can now use it on your car’s infotainment system.

Here’s how to get the new Google Maps on your iPhone: Just install iOS 12 and then update the Google Maps app to enjoy the navigation experience of your choice in CarPlay.
