VMware knows the art of combining mature open-source projects into its commercial products in order to deliver innovation. At the Cloud Foundry Summit, we spoke with Jared Ruckle, Group Product Line Marketing Manager at VMware, about the company’s concerted effort to bring Cloud Foundry and Kubernetes closer together. He touched on the flagship cf-for-k8s project, which hit a significant v1.0 milestone. He described how VMware’s Tanzu portfolio allows companies running Cloud Foundry to bring services running on top of Kubernetes. He explained, “There’s a lot of upside to give enterprises this proven developer experience with Cloud Foundry and marry it up with some Kubernetes primitives and really remixing this application platform experience for the next decade or so as companies are really placing their bets on Kubernetes, but really want that classic Cloud Foundry type of developer experience.” From a customer enablement perspective, he elaborated on VMware’s strategy for helping customers leverage both technologies no matter where they are in their digital transformation journey.
