U.S. can’t crush Huawei, says Ren Zhengfei

Close on the heels of facing intense scrutiny in the West over allegedly spying for the Chinese government, Huawei has said “there’s no way the U.S. can crush us.”

“The world cannot leave us because we are more advanced. Even if they persuade more countries not to use us temporarily, we can always scale things down a bit,” Huawei Technologies’ founder Ren Zhengfei told BBC in an interview.

Huawei, the world’s biggest producer of telecoms equipment, is on the Trump administration’s radar for its alleged potential to use its Internet Infrastructure for sharing intelligence with Beijing.

Dennis Zuo, the head of Huawei in Germany, told Handelsblatt newspaper that the Chinese government has no stake in the company’s business. The company prefers to work on being transparent in the debate about security of mobile networks, he added.
